Jane completed her undergraduate medical training in Glasgow, and Higher Surgical Training in London, Edinburgh and Glasgow. She undertook a year of fellowship training in hand and upper limb surgery at the Regional Centre in Adelaide, South Australia.
Jane was appointed to her current post in Fife in 1999, and leads the hand service in Fife. She has extensive experience in adult trauma and elective hand and upper limb conditions, with an interest in nerve compression, acute trauma and post traumatic conditions of the hand, and arthritis.
As a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery, Jane takes an active interest in research, and has set up locally a large prospective database for carpal tunnel syndrome, which has been running for 9 years, and from which many papers have been published. She has also published on basic science, with a link to the University of Edinburgh department of Biomechanics.
Jane has a strong track record of teaching and training. She co-convenes the Edinburgh Hand Course, and has lectured extensively both locally and nationally.
Jane lives in Edinburgh, is married to an Architect, and has 4 kids. She and her family enjoy the outdoors, particularly cycling, walking and canoeing.
